On May 14, 1948, the independence of the new State of Israel was proclaimed at the sitting of the People's Council convened by David Ben-Gurion in the house of Meir Dizengoff, Tel Aviv's first mayor, on Rothschild Boulevard
Of course, this ancient land has been inhabited since the Old Stone Age. So we could be totally immersed in its vast history and archeology. However, to gain an insight into the processes taking place in modern Israel, to understand its inhabitants, as well as to conclude on how to conduct business in this country and what prospects it might have, it is enough to start with 1948.
It goes without saying that we are also going to draw parallels with more distant events. However, our main focus for today is the contemporary history of both the country and the city.
